At the Eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference in 2017, ministers gave a clear mandate for the conclusion of negotiations on fisheries subsidies by 2019. Specifically, new disciplines are to be developed to prohibit certain forms of subsidies that contribute to overcapacity and overfishing, and to eliminate subsidies that contribute to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
HKC is working closely with other WTO members to this end.
